The German-manufactured Leopard series of main battle tanks has been a mainstay of NATO's armored forces since its inception, and a number are now in Ukrainian service after being provided by allies. With a 120mm main gun, a coaxial 7.62 mm machine gun, and another machine gun mounted on the loader's hatch, the Leopard brings impressive firepower to the battlfield.
Leopards in Ukrainian service are often modified for the realities they face in an environment saturated with drones and other weapons, from a slathering of explosive reactive armor to anti-drone cages intended to stop drones and force them to detonate well away from the tank itself.
While the Leopard is slated to be replaced eventually by a consortium of European NATO members, the Leopard is likely to remain a dominant presence on European battlefields far into the future.
